Douglas Eugene Smith, Jr.

Douglas Eugene Smith, Jr., age 54, of Montezuma, GA and formerly of Florida, died unexpectedly January 4, 2016 in Oglethorpe, GA. Born June 3, 1961 in Cortland, NY, he was the son of Lorraine Ellis Parker of Auburndale, FL and Douglas (Kathy) Smith, Sr. of South Beloit, IL. He was a foreman with Tropicana, in the Agriculture Division in Lake Wales, FL. He was an avid fan of the New York Yankees and NASCAR. He was a proud American, having served his country for 13 years in the US Army including a tour of duty in Desert Storm.

In addition to his parents, Doug is survived by his son, Shawn Douglas (Haylee) Smith of South Haven, MI; his daughter, Krystal Lynn Smith of Paw Paw, MI; his brother, Randolph (Linda) Smith of Trumansburg, NY; sister, Lorie Smith of Newfield, NY; numerous step-brothers and step-sisters including Michelle Weldon and Ginger Smith both of Elmira, NY, Chris (Allen) Matthews of NC and Lorie Parker of Groton, NY and the mother of his children, Sheila Zielinski. In addition, he was predeceased by his step-father, Carl Parker and grandparents, Norman and Helen Smith and Gordon and Lucille Ellis.

Friends may call from 3 to 5 pm on Sunday, January 10, 2016 at the Perkins Funeral Home, 55 West Main Street, Dryden, NY. Funeral services will be held at 10 AM, Monday, January 11, 2016 at the funeral home with Pastor Cheryl Hine officiating. Burial will follow in Willow Glen Cemetery, Dryden with Military Honors provided by members of the Dryden Veterans Memorial Home Ritual Team.
