Tappen, Edgar W., Jr
., age 83, of 330 Saranac Way, Ithaca, NY passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday, December 7, 2011. Edgar was born in Brooklyn, NY on August 7, 1928, the only child of Edgar and Dorothy (D'Angelo) Tappen. He grew up in East Williston, NY, and was graduated from Roslyn High School in 1946 and from Muhlenberg College, Allentown, PA, in 1950. Edgar entered the U.S. Naval Reserves through the V-5 program at Muhlenberg in 1946 and served until his honorable discharge in 1948.
Through friends, he met Joy Dee in 1952, and they were married on Valentine's Day, 1953. He worked for Servo Corporation of America in Hicksville, NY for 38 years, retiring in 1990 as the company treasurer. He shared his gifts, talents, and faith through membership in several Lutheran churches. He spent the last months of his life at home in the loving care of his wife, Joy. In addition to her, he leaves behind his daughters, Diane (Edward) Stammel and Janine (Richard) Woodrome. He was a loving grandfather to Kristin, David, Andrew, and Edward (Molly) Stammel and Daniel D'Albano and Samantha (Joshua) Kinney.
Funeral Services will be held at 1 PM, Saturday, Dec. 10, 2011 at the Perkins Funeral Home. Burial, with Military Honors provided by members of the Dryden Veterans Memorial Home Ritual Team, will be in Willow Glen Cemetery, Dryden. Friends and family are invited to call at 11 AM to 1 PM, Saturday, at the funeral home, 55 West Main St., Dryden.
