EDITH IONA UNDERWOOD
, age 78, of 411 Peru Road, Groton, NY passed away Monday, Feb. 2, 2009 at the Cortland Regional Medical Center after a long illness. Edith was born Sept. 16, 1930 in King Ferry, NY a daughter of the late Stewart and Ruth McKay Thompson. She was a long time area resident having resided in Auburn, Whitney Point and Groton. She was the widow of Ellard Underwood who died July 26, 1994. Years ago she was employed at the Statler Hotel, Cornell Univ.
Survivors include her daughter, Beth (John) Underwood-Scott of Groton; step-children, Joanne (Roger) Pate, Linda (Ronald) Kitner and Douglas Weisopp; siblings, Elizabeth Barnes, Shirley DaSilva, Wendell Thompson and Phyllis Hillary; several grand & great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by five siblings, Harry and Clifford Thompson, Kathryn Moore, Vivian Felton and Hannah Thompson.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM, Thursday, Feb. 5, 2009 at the Perkins Funeral Home with Rev. Matthew Smith officiating. Burial, delayed until spring, will be in Willow Glen Cemetery. Friends are invited to call from 2 to 3 PM Thursday at the funeral home, 55 West Main St., Dryden, NY
