Edward Eugene Thomas

EDWARD E. THOMAS, age 83, of Rt. 13, Cortland, NY passed away Sunday, Dec. 4, 2016 at the Cortland Regional Medical Center after a brief illness. "Ed" was born June 10, 1933 in Deposit, NY, a son of the late Arthur and Phoebe Lewis Thomas. He was graduated from Deposit High School and from Broome Community College. Ed served from 1952 to 1956 in the US Air Force and was employed as a Quality Engineer at Smith Corona. He was predeceased by his spouses, Elizabeth Havens Thomas and Marlene Maricle Thomas. He enjoyed hunting and looked forward to annual hunting trips in the Adirondacks and Catskills and as well as in local areas. Ed also enjoyed golfing, bowling and fishing.
Survivors include his son, Jeffrey Thomas of Lancaster, SC; his grandchildren, Alanna Hemenway of Marathon, Danielle & Kelsey MacNaughton, Justin Jenkins, Aarika Aquirre, Isaiah and Jasmine Phillips; his step-daughters, Tanya (Mark) MacNaughton of Farmington and Julie Phillips of Virginia Beach, VA; a niece, Ellen (Thomas) Lawrence of MD, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends, including Rick (Caroline) McMullin. Ed is also survived by his canine companion, Lucy. In addition to his spouses, he was predeceased by his daughter, Dawn Hemenway.
Funeral services will be held at 11 AM on Monday, Dec. 12, 2016 at the Perkins Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Willow Glen Cemetery, Dryden. Friends are invited to call from 2 to 4 PM, Sunday at the funeral home, 55 West Main Street, Dryden, NY. Members of the Dryden Veterans Memorial Home Ritual Team will provide military honors at the cemetery. Memorials are directed to the SPCA of Cortland, 859 McLean Rd., Cortland, NY 13045.
