Eileen Thorsen

Eileen S. Thorsen passed away on December 31, 2017 at Cortland Park Rehabilitation and Nursing Center. She was born on July 11, 1925, in Cortland, New York, the daughter of Raymond and Josephine (Murphy) Snyder. She graduated from Virgil Central School, Class of 1943.

In addition to her parents, Eileen was predeceased in death by her husband John, daughter Deborah T. Maxon, and brothers John and Robert.

In her youth, Eileen enjoyed playing softball in the local women's league. Her team won the Ladies Softball Tournament in 1948. She was also active for many years bowling with several leagues. In her senior years she competed in doubles and single events at the New York State Senior Games. Eileen coached Junior bowlers and was inducted into the Cortland Bowling Hall of Fame in 1991 for her work with youth Programs. She was also inducted into the 7 Valley USBC Hall of Fame in 2007. She was a life member of the Women of the Moose and a Daughter of the American Revolution.
Eileen worked at many places over the years including Cortland Tennis Company, Smith Corona, the Blue Stamp Store, and ultimately the Cortland County office of the Department of Motor Vehicles until she retired.

She is survived by her son Eric of Simpsonville, SC, daughters Theresa of St. Augustine, FL and Laurie T. (Mitch) Seamans of Cortland, sisters-in-law Joann Snyder and Joan Snyder, nieces and nephews, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

Eileen enjoyed sharing her jokes with friends and neighbors at the Friendship House and later at Cortland Park. Thanks go out to everyone who could appreciate her sense of humor, especially the staff at Cortland Park who made the last part of her life the best it could be as "the life of the party"

At her request there are no calling hours. The Family is being assisted by Perkins Funeral Home, Dryden, NY.
