After a twelve-year struggle with Alzheimer's Disease, Eleanor Brooks Bruce passed away on June 30, 2015 at the age of 87. She was born in Ithaca on February 23, 1928 to Raymond and Dorothy Loomis of Danby, NY.
Eleanor was a lifelong resident of Danby except for a few years in Onley, VA and 7 years as a resident at Beechtree Care Center in Ithaca. She was a devoted caregiver to her parents for many years as well as a homemaker all her life. She had many talents such as a beautiful singing voice, sewing skills which ranged from hand-pieced quilts to all kinds of needlework, photography, and flower and vegetable gardening.
She was predeceased by her first husband of 45 years, Donald A. Brooks, and by her second husband of nine years, Charles R. Bruce. She is survived by two daughters, Kathleen (Daniel) Clements of Danby, NY and Holly (Wayne) Wills of Tasley, VA; seven grandchildren, Ronald (Phyllis) Clements of Garrison, NY, Thomas (Sherry) Clements of Danby, NY, Karen (Matthew) Ros of Fayetteville, NY, Tanya (Shannon) Mayhew of Winston-Salem, NC, Shannon Barbour (Chris Christenson) of Philadelphia, PA, Morgan Barbour of Dublin, Ireland and Richard Wills of Tasley, VA; and six great-grandchildren, Ethan and Anna Ros, Lillian, Patrick, and Quincy Clements, and Landon Mayhew. Special thanks to the staff at Beechtree who lovingly cared for Eleanor.
A private burial will be held at the convenience of the family. Memorial donations may be made to Beechtree Care Center or the Alzheimer's Association. Perkins Funeral Home is assisting the family.
