ELSIE E. COLE POND, age 95, formerly of Virgil, NY died Tuesday, June 14th, 2005 at the Cortland Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Pond, was born in Plato Center, IL a daughter of the late James W. and Cora E. Morter Cole. Her husband, Tyler W. Pond, to whom she was married June 14, 1930 passed away March 8, 1990. She was employed at Cornell University in the Registrar’s office as a Secretary and Certification Clerk retiring in 1972. A community minded person, Elsie was a member of the Virgil United Methodist Church and was church treasurer for 37 years. She held memberships in the Four Score Club of Cortland, the Virgil Senior Citizens and the Virgil Historical Society. After leaving Virgil she had lived at Friendship House in Cortland and later at Walden Place. A loving mother and grandmother, she was always active, energetic and kept a positive outlook.

Survivors include her four daughters, Blanche (Robert) Spry of Dryden, Lucy (Richard) Jacobs of Virgil, Shirley (George) Foster of Virgil and Sandra (Douglas) Goodale of Cobleskill, NY; ten grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; five great-great grandchildren; nieces; nephews. She was predeceased by her sisters, Alice Smith and Doris McArthur; a brother, Earl Cole and a grandson, Stephen Cotterill.

Funeral Services will be held at 2 PM Friday, June 17th, 2005 at the Perkins Funeral Home with Rev. Janet D. Lee officiating. Burial will follow in Virgil Rural Cemetery. Friends are invited to call from 12 to 2 PM Friday at the funeral home, 55 West Main St., Dryden, NY. Friends who wish to remember Mrs. Pond are asked to consider a memorial to the United Methodist Church of Virgil, 1196 Church St., Cortland, NY 13045.
