Elwood C. Laird Sr.

ELWOOD C. "Woody" LAIRD, SR., age 72 of 685 Sheldon Road, Freeville, NY died unexpectedly on Saturday, Nov. 24, 2007 at the Cortland Memorial Hospital. Elwood was born Sept. 15, 1935 in Cortland a son of the late Thomas and Grace Brown Laird.

He was graduated from Cortland High School in 1953 and was employed at Smith Corona until retiring in 1994. On Nov. 30, 1956 he was married to the former Marjorie Ellen Morey in Freeville, NY. Mr. & Mrs. Laird were long time residents of West Dryden and built a new home on Sheldon Road in 1995. Woody was an avid dancer, bowler and woodworker. He enjoyed golfing and his grandchildren.

Survivors include his loving wife of 51 years, "Margie" at home, his son and daughter-in-law, Elwood C. Laird, Jr. and Donna Laird of Burlington, NC; his grandchildren, Jessica (Mark) Billings, Traci and Gerry Laird, Kevin and Jenniffer Luhr; four great-grandchildren, Leigha, Allysa, Garren and Isaiah; a sister, Dolores Chamberlain of Cortland.

Funeral services will be at 11 AM, Thursday, Nov. 29, 2007 at the Perkins Funeral Home with Rev. Bruce Scott officiating. Burial will follow in Willow Glen Cemetery, Dryden. Friends are invited to call from 5 to 8 PM, Wednesday at the funeral home, 55 West Main St., Dryden.
