Esther L. Mix

ESTHER L. MIX, age 80, of 686 Ringwood Road, Ithaca, NY, passed away Tuesday, December 20, 2005 at her residence after a lengthy illness. Esther was born in Ithaca on April 12, 1925 and was the daughter of Dana and Iva Cornelius Van Pelt. As a youth she was an avid tap dancer and participated in several local and state wide performances. She was graduated from Ithaca High School and on March 25, 1945 was married to Harold B. Mix at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church. Together they raised a family, built several homes and enjoyed 60 years as residents of Ellis Hollow. She was a life member and supporter of the Ellis Hollow Church. After her family was raised and settled into their own lives she became employed as the secretary for the NYS Police at the Varna substation of Troop C where she worked for fifteen years until retiring in 1987. She enjoyed arts, crafts, oil painting and wintering in Florida. Esther was a wonderful and devoted wife, mother and grandmother who will be greatly missed.

Survivors include her husband of 60 years, Harold B. Mix at home; her children, Karen M. (James) Pawlicki of Boonville, NY, Harold D. "Butch" (Susan) Mix of Ithaca, Carol D. (James) Pettee of Honeoye Falls, NY, Sarah L. (Mitchell Herzog) Padula of Ithaca and Scott A. (Jeanette) Mix of Bridgeton, MO; a brother, Myron (Geraldine) Van Pelt of Florida; ten grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 11 AM Friday, Dec. 23, 2005 at the Perkins Funeral Home with Rev. Dale Austin officiating. Burial will be held at a later date. There are no calling hours.
