EVALYN M. HAYES, age 86 of Virgil, NY passed away Wednesday, January 25, 2012 at Cortland Regional Medical Center, Cortland, NY.Born July 24, 1925 in Virgil, NY, she was the only daughter of the late Floyd D. and Harriet M. Martin MacGuinness. On July 28, 1945, she married Edward “Ned” Hayes, who died July 3, 1988. She was employed with the Cortland City School District at the Virgil Elementary School as the school secretary for many years. She was Past Treasurer and Past Marshall of the Dryden Chapter #250, Order of Eastern Star and was also a member of the Virgil PTO and Virgil Historical Society.Evalyn is survived by her son, Martin F. (Victoria L. Coleman ) Hayes of St. Petersburg, FL; and daughter-in-law, Ellen J. Hayes of Cortland, NY; grandchildren, Lee Shaw of Liverpool, NY and Sean S. (Tricia) Hayes of Ithaca, NY, and a great-granddaughter, Emma Shaw. In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by her son, Gary E. Hayes; a great-granddaughter, Carrie Ann Shaw and brother, Leo H. MacGuinness.Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am, Monday, January 30, 2012 at Perkins Funeral Home with Rev. Jack Ford officiating. Burial, delayed until spring, will be in Virgil Rural Cemetery. Friends may call from 3-5 pm on Sunday, January 29, 2012 at the funeral home, 55 W. Main St., Dryden, NY. Members of the Hudson-Dryden-Fulton Chapter O.E.S. will perform Eastern Star Services at 4:45 pm Sunday.
