Evangeline Mahool

Evangeline "Vangie" Mahool, age 78 formerly of Caroline, NY passed away Wednesday, Sept. 5th, 2007 at the Beech Tree Care Center, ithaca, NY after an extended illness with Alzheimer’s Disease. She was born Evangeline Faith Hotaling on June 15, 1929. Her parents were Frank Deitz & Lola Mae Bickal Hotaling. Vangie was born on Blackman Hill, Town of Caroline, in Tompkins Co., N.Y. Vangie was a graduate of Newark Valley High School where she grew

fond of Biology and Nature in general. After graduation she worked at the Ithaca Pocketbook Factory and as a secretary. She was a long time waitress at George's Restaurant, the Elks Club and Manos Diner. She also worked as a Home Health Aide for Family and Children's Services. Vange was a member of the St. John's Episcopal Church in Ithaca and the St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Slaterville Springs. Vangie loved the outdoors, especially teaching nature to her nieces and nephews. She also enjoyed her association with the Finger Lakes Bottle Club.

Vangie was pre-deceased by her brothers, Frank Grover Hotaling, Eugene Hiram Hotaling and Garrett Bickal Hotaling and sisters; Jeanette Pearl Chaffee, Eleanor Hattie Goodband

Thomas Brennan, and Prudence Lorraine Mix. She is survived by her sisters Beverly June Alfreds and Gladys Carol Andersen, both of Brooktondale. Vangie had three children, Jerry "Skip" (Diana) Benson, Mike (Debbie) Mahool and Dede Mahool. Vangie also had five grand children, Michael J. Mahool, Michelle Ciaschi, Sarah Mahool, Amy Castrovinci and JoAnn Gillette.

Calling Hours will be on Saturday, June 8, 2007 from 3 to 5 PM., at Perkins Funeral Home in Dryden, N.Y. A Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, September 9, 2007 at 1 PM at the Caroline Center Church. Interment will be Monday, September 10, 2007 at 1 PM at the Caroline Grove Cemetery.
