Flora Harris Bentley

FLORA HARRIS BENTLEY, age 88, of Port Watson St., Cortland, NY passed away Thursday, March 22, 2007 at the Cortland Regional Medical Center after a six month illness. Flora was born September 11, 1918 at Virgil, NY a daughter of the late Charles and Ethel Brown Overton. She was graduated from McLean High School and received her Licensed Practical Nursing License. She was married to Nathaniel Harris, Jr. and resided in the McLean & Cortland area all of her life. Mr. Harris passed away June 8th, 1966. Later she was married to Lawrence Bentley who passed away April 20, 1985. Flora was employed until her retirement at the Groton Health Care Center for Dr’s Short and Blatchley. She was a long time member of the McLean Community Church and the Retired Nurses Organization. Flora was a member of the "My Brother’s Keeper" quilting group that makes items for homeless people. She loved her dogs, gardening, flowers, china painting and knitting and will be greatly missed by her friends and family.

Survivors include her son, Michael (Susan) Harris of Cortland; her daughter, Kathleen (Harold) Jensen of Longwood, FL; a step-son, Darwin (Frankie) Bentley of Loganville, GA; a step-daughter, Bonnie (Greg) Hlad of Great Falls, MT; a sister, Thelma Fleming, of Marathon, NY; grandchildren, Wendy Brewer, Eric Jensen, Jill Harriott and Nate Harris; six great-grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; four step great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. In addition to her husbands, she was predeceased by her brothers, Victor, Aaron, and Charles Overton.

Funeral services will be held at 11 AM Monday, March 26, 2007 at the McLean Community Church with Rev. Leslie A. Smith officiating. Burial, delayed, will be in McLean Rural Cemetery. Friends are invited to call from 6 to 8 PM, Sunday at the Perkins Funeral Home, 55 West Main St., Dryden. Friends are asked to consider a memorial to the McLean Community Church, P.O. Box 246, McLean, NY 13102.
