FLORENCE E. GUNTHER,
age 94, died Wednesday, Nov. 2, 2005 at the Groton Residential Care Facility in Groton, NY, She previously resided at Woodsedge in Lansing and before that Pinellas Park, FL. She and her family lived for many years on Asbury Road in the Lansing Township. She was born in Covert, NY on September 20, 1911, the daughter of the late Arthur and Bessie Gibbs VanOstrand.
She was predeceased by her husband, Edwin E. Gunther; brothers, Carroll VanOstrand, Leon VanOstrand, Lyle VanOstrand, Florin VanOstrand and grandson, Terry Fudger.
Florence is survived by her three daughters, Vivian (Calvin) Collins and Marie Ayers both of Freeville, NY and a foster daughter, Edna (Gene) Reynolds of Spencer, NY. Grandchildren include Christine Golden, Joanne Fleming, Karen Salino, Jeffery Collins, Michael Ayers, Linda Biata and Judy Kopish; a sister, Mitta (Myron) Bennett of Ithaca; a brother Marion VanOstrand of Clifton Springs, NY; fourteen great-grandchildren and one great great-grandson.
Florence was a registered nurse, working at various local hospitals, nursing homes and also nursing homes in Pinellas Park where she and her husband of 55 years resided for twenty years. Florence was a member of St. John’s Episcopal Church in Ithaca.
Memorial services will be held at 10 AM Tuesday, Nov. 8th in the Perkins Funeral Home with Rev. Philip Snyder officiating after which friends are invited to stay for a visitation hour with Florence's family. Burial will be private in Lake View Cemetery, Ithaca. Those wishing to remember Florence are asked to consider a memorial, in lieu of flowers, to the Activities Fund, Groton Res. Care Fac., 120 Sykes St., Groton, NY 13073.
