FLOYD W. SEARS, age 70, of 6797 County Road 129, Ovid and formerly of the Ithaca, NY area on Snyder Hill Road and Lakeland, FL went to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, May 5th, 2006 at Rochester General Hospital in Rochester, NY
Floyd was graduated from Ithaca High School in 1954. He married the former Frances R. Morse from Freeville, NY on Feb. 20th, 1955. They celebrated 50 years of marriage last year. When the name Floyd Sears was mentioned you could not help but think about his beautiful voice that our God blessed him with. Floyd was a Nashville recording artist
and recorded for the country music legend, Hank Snow. Floyd recorded a Gospel Album, "Jesus Put A Yodel in My Soul", at Johnny Cash’s studio known as The House of Cash. Many CD’s tapes and other recordings followed. The face and voice of Floyd Sears appeared on national radio and television. In the late 1960's, Floyd chose to leave country music and use his talents to minister and serve the Lord in churches. In 1976, the Floyd Sears Family Singers went on tour throughout the New England States. Those who knew Floyd know he loved to sing and entertain, but mostly he wanted to reach people for Christ.
Floyd was a Godly man with hobbies that included hunting, fishing, traveling and most of all music. He touched many thousands of lives on earth, and we know the hope and words he would want to share with us at the end would be... "absent from the body and present with the Lord".
Survivors include his children, Michael (Sue) Sears of Etna; Barbara (Kevin) McKittrick of Interlaken, NY, Joseph (Kathryn) Sears of Spencer, NY, Timothy (Lynne) Sears of Freeville, Lisa (Albert) Hill of Moravia, NY, Ellie (Clinton) Wolfe of Shohola, PA; his brother, Donald (Gerry) Sears and a sister, Joyce (Carson) Fremont; fourteen grandchildren, Sara (Clifford) Ostrander, Michael Sears, Jr., Marty Sears, Ivan and Rosalyn McKittrick, Jeana, Joey and Jaclyn Sears, Jennifer (John) Mann, Timothy Sears, Jr., Samuel Sears, Desiree’ and Kristylee Hill and Moriah Wolfe; two great-grandchildren, Elijah and Arianna Mann; nieces and nephews.
