Mrs. Frances Crain French,
age 94, of Forest City, NC died Tuesday, May 13,
2008 at Rutherford Hospital. A native of McLean, NY, she was the daughter of
the late Olin Bly Crain and Mary Grace Davidson Crain, and widow of the late
William Samuel French. She was a graduate of Canton High School in 1931;
graduate of Cortland Normal in 1937; received her bachelors degree from
Buffalo State Teacher College in 1941; and received her masters degree from
Cortland State Teachers College in 1964. Mrs French was a retired elementary
school teacher, worked as a social worker in the child welfare and outreach
divisions; a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Forest City; former
member of the Order of the Eastern Star; a volunteer with Rutherford County
Schools working at Harris and Sunshine Schools as a proctor; a volunteer at
Yokefellow Center and the Rutherford County Senior Center, and a piano
instructor, having taught piano since high school until her 94th birthday.
Survivors include a son, David B. French of Baldwinsville, NY; ten
grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held at 10:00 am on Friday, June 27th, 2008 at
McLean Rural Cemetery, McLean, NY with Rev. David Nicholls officiating.
