Franklin R. Bickford

Franklin R. Bickford, age 82 of Dryden, NY, passed away Thursday, December 29, 2022, at Cayuga Medical Center.

Born January 11, 1940, in New Haven, Connecticut, he was the son of the late Ellinor and Franklin Bickford. He grew up in Belleville, NY, graduated from Belleville Central in 1958 and attended Oswego State and graduated with a teaching degree in Chemistry. He taught Chemistry for 3 years at Firestone High School in Akron, Ohio, received a master’s degree in chemistry at Arizona State and then moved to Camarillo, California, where he taught Chemistry for 2 years at the high school and Astronomy at Ventura Community College. He then returned to NY State and completed 50 years of teaching Chemistry, Geology and Astronomy at TC3. He spent every summer at the family cottage in Henderson Harbor where he spent many memorable hours sailing and visiting with family and friends.

Franklin was predeceased by his mother, father and brother, Richard. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Nancy; two children, Carl (Christie) and Leah (Shawn); 3 grandchildren, Kayleigh, Mackenzie and Connor; brother, Harlow (Charlene); and nephews.

At Frank’s request there will be no formal services. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory can be made to Tompkins Cortland Community College.
