Garret VanDeWeert of Harford Mills, NY passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 8, 2025
at the age of 90 with his sons by his side, following a brief illness.
Born January 31, 1934 in Glen Rock, New Jersey, he was the son of Ella TenKate and Garret
VanDeweert. Garret retired from the ARCO gas plant in Harford, NY. He was married to Joyce
Ann Lynch for 70 years. Garret was a well-known figure in the Town of Harford where he was the
Town Supervisor for many years and he also owned and operated a family farm with his 2 sons.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers, Bernard (wife Patricia) of Towanda, Pa,
Henry (wife Helen) of King George, Va, John (Dryden, NY), and sister Carol Anne (Dryden, NY).
Garret is survived by his wife, Joyce, by sons Garret John (Patti) of Harford, Joe, and daughters,
Mary (John) Marchica of Erieville, and Ella (Darrell) Emmick of Harford Mills; grandchildren,
Christopher VanDeWeert, Nick Emmick (Emily) and their children Harper and Hannah, Casey
(Mary) VanDeWeert and their children Bradley, Evelynne, and Zachary, Joshua (Angela)
VanDeweert and their children Adam, Brensyn, and Cayden, Francesca VanDeWeert and her
daughter Savannah, Samantha VanDeWeert and her daughter Nova, and Issac (Jenn)
VanDeWeert, and Emma Marchica. Also surviving, are Garret’s brother, Ronald VanDeWeert of
Marathon and sister, Elaine Fergus of Ithaca, brother-in-law, Gordie Morgan (Carol Anne’s
husband) of Candor, and sister-in-law Henrietta VanDeWeert (John’s wife) of Dryden, sister-in-law,
Beverly (Thomas) Findura of Herkimer, and sister-in-law, Judith (Samuel) Jess of Ilion, NY as well
as several cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Calling hours will begin at 11:00 a.m. at St. Stephen’s Church in Marathon on Saturday, January
18, 2025, prior to the funeral mass which will begin at 12:00 p.m. A light meal will follow at the
Marathon Legion, Rte. 11 North, Marathon, NY. A private burial will be held at the Berkshire
Evergreen Cemetery in the spring.
