Gayle (Short) Reed

Gayle Short Reed passed away May 27, 2022 after a long illness in Murfreesboro, TN.

Born on May 8, 1944  in Richford, NY, she was the youngest daughter of Mr. Clayton F. Short & Mrs. Iva D. Short (both deceased), Richford, NY.

Gayle was a 1962 graduate of Newark Valley High School and married Melvin D. Fogle (deceased) in 1963 that ended in divorce. She had a wonderful talent for music.  She learned to play the piano and organ at an early age and sang with the choir at church in Harford, NY.  Gayle had an amazing ability to not only read music, but could play a song by ear and had "Perfect Pitch" a rare ability. Gayle also had a talent for making arrangements, decorating, gardening and a love for animals, particularly horses and dogs.

Gayle has lived in several places in her life, most recent was moving to McMinnville, TN in 2006. Gayle would do anything to help people in any way that she could and did so with pride and joy.

Gayle is survived by her daughter, Deborah L. Sherman and husband, Patrick K. Sherman of Watertown, NY; 4 sisters, Mrs. Lois Cross & Mr. Stanley Cross (deceased) Harford, NY, Mrs. Marlene Keyser (deceased) & Mr. Robert Keyser (deceased) Munnsville , NY, Ms. Sandra Hackett Louisa, KY, Mrs. Judith Patterson & Mr. Robert Patterson McMinnville, TN along with several nieces, nephews , cousins  and friends from NY and Tennessee.

Funeral services will be held at 12 pm, Saturday, June 18, 2022 at Perkins Funeral Home, 55 W. Main St., Dryden, NY with Pastor Steph Brown officiating. Friends and family are invited to come from 11am until 12pm prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, a donation would be appreciated to an animal shelter of one’s choice.
