GAYLORD NASH,
age 73, of Slaterville Rd., Slaterville Springs, NY passed away Friday, June 1, 2012, at the Cayuga Medical Center at Ithaca after a lengthy illness.Gaylord was born May 8, 1939 in Ithaca, a son of the late Archie “Pete” and Agnes Visnyei Nash. Gaylord attended Ithaca High School where he played varsity football for Coach Joe Moresco.
He served from 1957 to 1960 in the US Navy where he continued to play football and proudly served as a plane captain aboard the USS Independence. After his honorable discharge he returned home and joined his father as a partner in “Archie Nash and Son Used Cars” located in Slaterville Springs. Gaylord had a great love for cars and enjoyed NASCAR and short track racing of any kind. He had a passion for hunting and always owned either a bird dog or a coon hound and most recently his faithful poodle companion of 15 years, Peter.
Survivors include his sisters, Carolyn (Louis) Fabi and Charleen Nash both of Ithaca, his children, Shane Nash of Florida, Christopher Nash of Ithaca and Melissa (Bob Ferris) Todi of Willseyville; grandchildren, Shayne Nash of Trumansburg, Brandon Nash of McLean, and Michael and Kyle Ferris of Willseyville; many nieces, nephews and cousins including special cousins, Harlow “Brud”, Greg Sr., Bob Jr., Gordon Jr. and Greg Nash Jr. to name only a few. He was predeceased by his lifetime sweetheart and mother of his daughter, Joan Crace, and a nephew, Michael “Mickey” West who both died in 2009 and his former wife and the mother of his sons, Judith Terpening Nash who died in 2012.
Funeral services will be held at 10 AM, Thursday, June 7th at the Perkins Funeral Home with Rev. Phil Jordan officiating. Burial, with military honors provided by members of the Dryden Veterans Memorial Home Ritual Team, will follow in Charles Mulks Cemetery, Slaterville Springs, NY. Friends are invited to call from 5 to 7 PM, Wednesday, at the funeral home, 55 West Main St., Dryden. Please join the family, following the cemetery services, at the Ithaca Post 221, American Legion, 1231 Danby Rd., Ithaca for a reception and time of fellowship.
