Gene L. Sanderson Smith

Mrs. GENE L. SANDERSON SMITH, age 83, of 4866 McDonald Road, Homer, NY died Saturday, Sept. 11, 2004 surrounded by her family at the Cortland Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Smith was born March 29, 1921 at Dryden, NY a daughter of the late Arthur and Minnie Robinson Sanderson. She was graduated from Dryden High School in 1940 and was the Valedictorian of her class. She was married to Victor M. Smith who passed away August 24, 1994. Gene was employed for 19 years as a switch board operator at the Cortland Memorial Hospital. She was a member of Faith Baptist Church.

Survivors include her children: Anna S. (Chuck) Cargile of Skaneateles, Melvin L. (Nancy) Smith of Homer, Aggie S. (Thomas Huttleston) Steele of Homer, Victor Mark (Wendy Stadler) Smith of Homer and Alice E. (Tim) Murdock of Groton; a sister, Edna Robertson of Ithaca; a sister-in-law, Virginia S. Bristow of Cortland; seventeen grandchildren; one great-grandson; nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a son, Marvin Smith; her sister, Mildred Crispell and her brother, Roy Sanderson.

Funeral service will be at 1 PM Wednesday, Sept. 15, 2004 at the Faith Baptist Church, 1731 NYS Rt.13 North, Cortland, NY with Pastor Matthew Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Willow Glen Cemetery, Dryden. Her family will receive their friends from 7 to 9 PM Tuesday at the Perkins Funeral Home, 55 West Main St., Dryden.
