George H. Clark Sr.

George H. Clark Sr., age 91 of Dryden, NY passed away Wednesday, July 31, 2024 at Guthrie Cortland Medical Center.

Born October 30, 1932 in Ithaca, NY he was the son of the late Harold and Mary Clark. He was graduated from Dryden High School in 1950 and on July 5, 1952 was married to Edith Marie Sovocool. She passed away August 21, 2011. George was a US Army veteran of the Korean War and was a baker at the Home Dairy in Ithaca. He was in the construction business most of his life and had worked with Slade & Sovocool, Patch Brothers, Otto Cap, and Stan Bradley among others. He also owned his own custom home building business, Clark Builders, and built over 100 homes around the area. After retiring, George worked in his wood shop creating many pieces of furniture including plant stands, coffee tables, end tables, TV stands, bookshelves, kitchen tables, headboards, dressers and blanket chests. He was a member of Dryden American Legion Post 1134 and a member and past president of the Home Builders Assoc.  He loved gardening, fishing and dancing at the Country Music Park. On July 2, 2023 he and Shirley Smith were joined in marriage with a religious ceremony, considering each other husband and wife.

George is survived by his brothers, Richard “Dick” Clark, James Clark and John Clark; his children, Marie Moore (Steve – deceased), George Clark Jr. (Lorraine) and Susan Foote (Donald – deceased); grandchildren, Heather (Kevin), Jolene, Andrew, Christopher, Cassie (Blake), Steven and Amy; great grandchildren, Nick, Chris, Nate – deceased, Lauralye, Justin, Charlette, Xander, Aria and Clayton; great great granddaughter, Arya; numerous nieces, nephews and other extended family members. In addition to his parents and wife, George is predeceased by siblings, Helen Dittmar, Raymond Clark, and Mary Jane Roach.

Funeral services will be held at 10 am, Monday, August 5, 2024 in Perkins Funeral Home, 55 W. Main St., Dryden, NY burial with military honors will follow at Green Hills Cemetery, Dryden. Family and friends are invited to call from 2-4 pm on Sunday, August 4, 2024 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Neptune Hose Co., PO Box 397, Dryden or Dryden American Legion Post 1134, 2272 Dryden Rd., Dryden, NY 13053.
