George N. Hillenbrand

George Norman Hillenbrand was born December 14, 1951 to Donnie Zizoff Hillenbrand and George
Hillenbrand in Manhattan, NY. Both of his parents were first generation here. He had great respect for
those who came before him. He was a man of faith, math, science, design, words, big ideas and full of
stories. He loved his family and friends and even strangers through tangible giving from a Santa-sized
heart. He adored his grandchildren and valued the time he had with them. He never did anything small,
until his heart found itself devoting all of his strength to taking just one more breath.
George attended St. Luke’s school and Trinity School in Manhattan, then Cornell University where he
graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science when one computer filled a whole room! In
1979 he married Margie Taylor at Covenant Love Community Church in Freeville where he volunteered.
They moved to Rochester New York for his work in 1982 and lived there for 30 years, raising five
children. He was a home group leader in his church for many years, coached Rookie Little League,
shopped and sold concessions for East High School PTSA Booster Club/a member of PTSA, volunteered
with the Empire Statemen helping to feed everyone on trips. As part of a new church-plant, he fed
people, facilitating after-church meal gatherings. As a computer software architect, he worked at NCR
(Ithaca), CCI, NorTel, Sam Asher Computing (Rochester.) He commuted to Detroit to consult for
Michigan Blue Cross/Blue Shield and later to Virginia working for Verisign.
He and Margie returned to Dryden in 2011, so Margie could help care for family here. He retired a few
years later. He loved gathering family and friends for holidays, perfecting recipes, and writing wrestling
with ideas.
He is survived by his sister Dori Hillenbrand (Chris) Worcester MA; wife Margie, Dryden; children: Mindy
(Mike Peet) Rochester, NY; Tory (Chelsea) Arundel, ME; Amy (Dan Mulligan) Dryden, NY; Christie,
Dryden NY; Jenny, Cambridge, NY. Two grandchildren. One niece, five nephews, and grand-nieces and
nephews.
George will be buried in Willow Glen Cemetery Dryden, New York green space. Friends and family are
invited to gather to celebrate his life in spring 2024. TBD
