George Haynes Merchant Jr.

George H. Merchant Jr., age 70, of Watkins Glen, NY formerly of Willet, NY passed away Friday, May 25, 2018 at Wilson Medical Center, Johnson City, NY with his children, niece and loving companion, Gloria Williams by his side.
Born May 13, 1948 in Cortland, NY he was the son of the late George H. and Doris Furman Merchant and husband of the late Arlene Nemecek Merchant who died in 2015. George was retired from Buckbee Mears in Cortland, NY and was the former owner of the Brown Beaver Inn in Willet, NY.
Survivors include his children, Bobbiejo (Steve) Warner, Melissa (Kevin Spinner) McUmber and Michelle (Carl) Guild, Robert (Stacy) Merchant, Jody (Lisa) Merchant, James Homza Jr., Michael (Traci) Homza; grandchildren, Tony (Liz) Merchant, Heather Merchant, Katie Becker, Brittney (Nate) Sutherland, Joshua Merchant, Avery Merchant, Cole Merchant, Rachel Homza, Tori Homza, Gracie Jo Homza, Brittany Barkman, Brandon Homza, Nicholas Homza, Adrienne Homza, Carlecia McUmber, Christian McUmber, Rylee McCombs, Kristopher Spinner, Ryan Spinner, Dana Guild, Aleice Guild, Brittany Guild and Bridgette Guild; great grandchildren, Isaiah Barkman, Elaina Sutherland, Anna Sutherland and Hunter Merchant; siblings, Thomas Merchant, Joan Merchant, Helen Martin, Sherman Mauzy, Carol “Phyllis” (Wyatt) Rozboril and Pat (Spike) Simon; several nieces, nephews and his extended Canadian family. In addition to his parents and wife, he was predeceased by siblings, Timothy Merchant, Sheila Hampton and Johann Mauzy.
Friends may call from 4-5 pm followed by a memorial service at 5 pm on Saturday, June 9, 2018 at Faith Baptist Church, 1731 Route 13, Cortland, NY with Rev. Jim Owens officiating. Burial will be in Willow Glen Cemetery, Dryden, NY. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Danielle House, 160 Riverside Drive, Binghamton, NY 13905.
