George E. O'Connor

GEORGE E. O’CONNOR, age 80, of Dryden, NY passed away Thursday, Nov. 20, 2008 at home surrounded by his family after a long battle with cancer. Born August 14, 1928 in Oswego, NY a son of the late Glenn and Mary O’Brien O’Connor. George served honorably in the US Navy from 1952 to 1954 and upon discharge enrolled at Ithaca College graduating with a BS in Accounting. He was employed at Smith Corona, NY Central Railroad, Penn Central Railroad and retired from TC3 in 1993 after 20 years employment there. On October 9, 1993 he was married to the former Sue Diamond Stout. George enjoyed cards, fishing, hunting, gardening and bowling.

Survivors include his loving wife, Sue O’Connor of Dryden, his son, Robert J. O’Connor of Dryden, step-children, Brian (Susan) Stout of Summerhill, NY and Nancy (Robert) Bowker of Cortland and many grandchildren, step-grandchildren nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister, Janet Moore.

Abiding by George’s wishes, there are no calling hours. Private services will be held at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in Parker Street Cemetery, Lapeer, NY. Those wishing to remember George are asked to consider a memorial to Hospicare, 172 E. King Road, Ithaca, NY 14850. Arrangements were entrusted to the Perkins Funeral Home, 55 West Main St., Dryden.
