GEORGE R. PANTOS, age 83, of 384 George Rd., Freeville, NY passed away Friday, May 25, 2012 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Syracuse, NY after a brief illness.

Born June 9, 1928 in Worcester, Massachusetts, he is the son of the late Spiro and Sigrid VonScheven Pantos and husband of the late Evangelia Maria Demake Pantos who died in 1999.

George was a US Army Veteran of the Korean Conflict. He was a carpenter and worked in the agriculture field most of his life both as a farmer and in implement sales. He worked for various farm implement dealers including Dryden Implement. He also enjoyed time with his fellow mall walkers. He was a member of St. Catherine’s Greek Orthodox Church and the Dryden Township Post 8158 VFW.

Mr. Pantos is survived by his children, Georgette (Merrick) Burlingame of Dryden, NY; Spiro Pantos of Seneca Falls, NY; and Diane (Martin) Crosley of Marcellus, NY; grandchildren, Timothy Burlingame, Matthew (Michelle)Burlingame, Isaiah Pantos, Allison Crosley, Lauren Crosley and Patrick Crosley; great granddaughter, Eva Burlingame; sisters, Rita Nelson, Penny Hutchins, Jeannie Heffron, brother, Ernest Pantos and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and wife, he was predeceased by his sister, Julia Erick.

Funeral services will be held at 11 am, Wednesday, May 30, 2012 at St. Catherine’s Greek Orthodox Church, Ithaca, NY with Rev. Fr. Athanasios G. Parthenakis officiating. Burial with military honors, provided by the Dryden Veterans Memorial Home Ritual Team, will follow at Willow Glen Cemetery, Dryden. Friends may call from 10-11 am prior to the service at the church.
