George Henry Saltsman, 90 of Virgil, NY passed away February 27, 2024. Born in Virgil on September 12, 1933 he was the son of the late Fred and Florence Matson Saltsman. He graduated from Virgil Central School and Cornell University prior to serving in the US Army. Following his honorable discharge from the Army, George returned to Virgil and farmed the family’s century-old farm with his father, brothers and finally with Lee and Eric Price. George was a Boy Scout leader and Silver Beaver Award Winner. He served on the Virgil Town Board and was a Virgil Town Judge for many years. George was also a volunteer with the Virgil Fire Dept. for over 50 years and for many years served as secretary.
In addition to his parents, George was predeceased by his siblings, John, Roy, Mary, and Lucy. He is survived by his sister, Jane Muncel and sister-in-law, Rosemary Saltsman; cousins, nieces and nephews. George was friends with Sandy and the late Lee Price where he made his home for many years. He also considered their children, and grandchildren family, especially Eric who, with his family, still runs the farm today.
Calling hours will be held on Saturday, March 9th from noon to 1pm with a memorial service to follow at 1pm at Perkins Funeral Home, 55 W. Main Street, Dryden. In Lieu of flowers you are welcome to make donations to the Virgil United Method Church Youth Group.
