GEORGE LELAND SUTLIFF
, age 81, of Freeville, NY passed away Monday, August 22, 2011, at the Groton Nursing Facility. Mr. Sutliff was born May 17, 1930 in North Lansing, NY a son of the late Ernest Robert and Lela Singer Sutliff. George served in the US Army in Korea and was married on Nov. 30, 1952 to the former, Betty Bruster at Ithaca. George was a carpenter and home builder and a 46 year member of Carrington Fuller Post 800, American Legion. George and Betty wintered in Leesburg, FL for many years and then made their year round home in Wildwood, FL until returning to Freeville in 2009.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Betty of Freeville, his children, Cynthia (Sid) Longest of Canon, CO, William (Carol) Sutliff of Dryden and Vikki (Lewis) Leonard of Daytona Beach, FL; grandchildren, Christopher (Ella) Longest, Gregory (Cassie) Longest, Lee (Crystal) Ink and Leisa Leonard; great-grandchildren, Cameron and Shane Fox; siblings, Althea (Rodney) Phillips, Wilma (Harold) Peters, Paul Sutliff and Donald (Marion) Sutliff; a sister-in-law, Mary (Geoffery) Hartman and a very special friend, Albert Lockwood of Groton; nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by a brother, Lawrence Sutliff and a sister-in-law, Phyllis Sutliff.
Graveside services with military honors by members of the Carrington-Fuller, Post 800 will be held privately in North Lansing Cemetery. There are no calling hours.
