GERALD "BUD" HAVINGTON, age 79, of East Lake Road, Dryden, NY, died Thursday, May 26, 2005, at the Cortland Memorial Hospital. Bud was born in Malone, NY, on January 22, 1926, a son of the late Andrew and Anna Beckett Havington. His family moved to Lake Road, Dryden in 1931, where he has resided since.
He served in the Pacific Theater with the US Navy during WWII and was a member and Past Commander of the Leonard T. Spaulding Post #1134, American Legion and Dryden Township Post #8158, Veterans of Foreign Wars. Bud was a member of the Dryden Veterans Memorial Home Ritual Team. He was a self-employed Dairy Farmer, and previously had been employed at GLF and Agway,
before becoming the Farm Maintenance Supervisor at the Cornell University Teaching and Research Center at Harford. He was a member of the Dryden Lodge #390 IOOF; Bud also was a life member of Dryden Grange.
His wife of 43 years, the former Florence J. Ferguson Havington, passed away May 6, 1995.
Survivors include his dear companion, Elaine Schwartz of Freeville; his children, Michael G. (Carolyn) Havington of Cortland, Andrew T. (Sharon) Havington of Lansdale, PA, James W. Havington of State College, PA, Howard (Jacklyn) Havington of Dryden, Nancy J. (Jeffrey) LeFevre of Bradenton, FL, Mary A. (Michael) Hoke of Poland, NY, Jeanette M. (Colin) Rockwell of Dryden; his sister, Frances Dory of St. Petersburg, FL; grandchildren, Jeffrey and Elizabeth LeFevre, Alison and Natalie Randolph, Rachel Hoke, Kelsey Bates, Chaz Rockwell, Andrew Havington, Jr., Miranda, Brandon, Ryan and Eric Havington; an uncle, Walter, Elizabeth) Havington of Groton; nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, June 1, 2005, at the Perkins Funeral Home with Rev. David H. Nicholls officiating. Burial with Military Honors given by the Dryden Vets Memorial Home Ritual Team will be in Green Hills Cemetery, Dryden. Friends are invited to call from 7 to 9 p.m., Tuesday at the Perkins Funeral Home, 55 West Main St., Dryden.
