GERALD F. MEDDAUGH, age 83, of Aurora Street, Moravia, NY went to be with his Lord on Thursday, Dec. 2, 2010, surrounded by his loving family at home. Gerald was born Sept. 19, 1927 in Berkshire, NY, a son of the late James P. and Winona E. Starkweather Meddaugh. Gerald served in the US Army during WW II and served in Korea and on July 2, 1960 was married to the former Sharon Culver in Newark Valley, NY.
Jerry was employed in the Laborers Union and later for ten years at Cornell University retiring in 1995.During retirement he was employed at the Franziska Racker Centers. Jerry, also known as Mooch, enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping but most of all he enjoyed being with his family. He was often referred to as being “the man with a smile” and kept a sense of humor through all of his life. He prayed for his children every day and was a devoted husband and father who loved his wife more than anything in the world. He will be sorely missed.
Survivors include his loving wife of 50 years, Sharon; his children, Gerri Lynne (Abadou) George, Scott (Cindy) Meddaugh, Chris (Corey) Meddaugh, Mike (Bo Caudill) Meddaugh, Kenneth (Kimberly) Meddaugh; a sister, Minnie VanEtten; 13 grandchildren, Cody, Megan, Jessica, Cady, Jasmine, Autumn, Travis, MaryBeth, Angela, Kyle, Troy, Nicole and Jerod; 3 great-grandchildren, Ethan, Jamie and Mackenzie; nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be held at 10 AM Tuesday, Dec. 7, 2010 at the Perkins Funeral Home with Pastor Frank Westcott and Pastor Francis Cochran officiating. Burial, with military honors provided by members of the Dryden Veterans Memorial Home Ritual Team, will be in Willow Glen Cemetery, Dryden. Friends are invited to call from 4 to 7 PM, Monday at the funeral home, 55 West Main St., Dryden. Memorials, in lieu of flowers, may be made to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, Central New York Chapter, 7445 Morgan Rd., Liverpool, NY 13090 or the National Parkinson Foundation, Gift Processing Center, PO Box 5018, Hagerstown, MD 21741-5018.
