GERALDINE FISHER, age 65, of Spring Meadows, Romulus, NY entered into life eternal with her Lord and Savior, Jesus, on Friday. September 7th, 2007 at Strong Memorial Hospital, Rochester after a brief illness. Ms Fisher was born November 11, 1941 at Warrenton, GA a daughter of the late Lester and Mattie Mae Ivory Jackson. She was graduated from Catskill High School, TC3, Cornell University and SUNY Cortland where she received her Masters Degree in Education. She had been the owner and director of Mother Goose Day Care near the Cayuga Medical Center at Ithaca and was employed at George Junior Republic, Louis Gossett, Jr. Residential Center, Kendall of Ithaca and Willard Drug Treatment Center, Willard, NY.
Growing up as the second oldest child in a family of eight, she overcame many adversities and with the encouragement of a close friend and mentor, Sara Robinson Frantz, she graduated from high school and in 1972 became the first African-American to be graduated from Tompkins Cortland Community College. She always obtained personal goals, especially demonstrated by being graduated from Cornell University and SUNY Cortland. She loved children and valued education and knowledge as the key to success and happiness. Geraldine accomplished a great deal for herself but felt that it really was about what God wanted her to do in helping others. She had a strong personal relationship with her Lord and wanted all that she met to know the comfort that this relationship gave her.
Survivors include her daughter Angela Fisher of Rego Park, NY; her siblings, Willie (Jacqueline) Jackson of Catskill, Anthony and Ernest Larry Jackson of Ithaca, Evans (Linda) Jackson of San Diego, CA, Denise (Donald) Evans of Catskill, Alphonso (Jennifer) Jackson of Albany, Gloria (Bernard) Jackson; her former husband, David Fisher, Hancock, MI; a host of aunts; uncles; nieces; nephews; cousins and friends.
A celebration of Geraldine’s life will be held at First Assembly of God Church, Bostwick Road, Ithaca, NY at 11 AM Wednesday, September 12, 2007. Burial will follow in Pleasant Grove Cemetery, Ithaca. Friends are invited to call from 10 to 11 AM at the First Assembly of God , Bostwick Rd. and from 7 to 9 PM Tuesday, Sept. 11 at the Seneca Community Church, Rt. 96, Romulus, NY. Friends are asked to consider a memorial, in Gerry’s name, to an organization of one own choice, that helps disadvantaged youth.
