Gertrude Saltsman

GERTRUDE SALTSMAN, age 97, formerly of NYS Rt. 392, Town of Virgil, died Tuesday, May 2, 2006 at the Cortland Care Center, Cortland, NY. Mrs. Saltsman was born Sept. 13, 1908 in Coxsackie, NY a daughter of the late John and Anna McCardle Dowling. On January 18, 1931 she was married to Albert G. Saltsman who passed away July 30, 1975. She moved to Virgil in 1946 and along with her husband operated the Virgil Spring Mill for many years. She was a member of St. Mary’s Church in Cortland.

Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Thomas R. and Linda Saltsman of Virgil; grandson, Gregory A. (Theresa) Saltsman of Virgil and a granddaughter, Laurie J. Saltsman of Cortland; two great-grandchildren, Zachary and Jenna Saltsman. Several nieces and nephews also survive as well as her favorite canine companions, Bonnie and Greta. She was predeceased by her siblings, Virginia Duignan, John, Victor, Paul and William Dowling.

Funeral services will be at 1 PM Friday, May 5, 2006 at the Perkins Funeral Home with Father Mike Minehan of St. Mary’s Church officiating. Burial will follow in Virgil Rural Cemetery. Friends are invited to call from 12 to 1 PM Friday at the funeral home, 55 West Main St., Dryden, NY.
