GLADYS BARRY, age 94, born in Stockport, England and formerly a resident of 3 Pearl St, Hazel Grove, UK, Albuquerque, NM, Rochester, Newark Valley, Harford and Dryden passed away Tuesday, May 8, 2012 at the Groton Nursing Home. Gladys was born March 23, 1918 a daughter of the late Joseph and Mary Smith Hatfield. Immigrating to America in 1967, she and her late husband, Arthur Barry, Sr. first lived in Harford, NY.
She was employed at Cornell University at the Statler Hotel and Rothchild’s Dept. Store. Gladys was a member of the Finger Lakes Church of Christ and enjoyed reading and taught ballroom dancing. She was an active member of Senior Net.
Survivors include her children, Christopher D. Barry in England, Arthur (Sandra) Barry, Jr., Maxine (Kenneth) Wilkins of Dryden and Susan Gail (Richard) Smith of Freeville; thirteen grandchildren; twenty-one great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a sister, Alice Hickson.
Funeral services will be held at 4 PM, Friday, May 11, 2012 at the Perkins Funeral Home with her son, Arthur Barry, Jr., officiating. Friends are invited to call Friday at the funeral home from 2 to 4 PM. Burial will be private in Hope Cemetery, Newark Valley.
