Gladys Carol Thornton

GLADYS C. THORNTON, age 90, formerly of Harford Mills NY passed away peacefully in the presence of her family at the Cortland Park Nursing and Rehabilitation Facility in Cortland. Born Nov. 29, 1924 in Richford, NY, Gladys was a daughter of the late Clifford and Vergie Leonard Royce. A life area resident, she retired as the Postmistress of the Harford Mills Post Office and had formerly worked at Draper Egg processing plant. Her husband, Albert Earl Thornton, Sr. died May 23, 1985. Gladys was a loving woman who grew up in tough times, enjoyed camping, farm animals, baking for family and friends. Gladys always had an open door for friends and family.
Survivors include her sons, Albert E. (Bonnie) Thornton, Jr. and Carl D. Thornton both of Harford Mills; a brother, Robert (Dorothy) Royce of Mecklenburg, NY; four grandchildren; eight great grandchildren and six great great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Shirley Royce of Enfield. She was predeceased by her parents, her husband and; her siblings, Myrtle Woodard, Elsie DeCamp, Clifford Royce, Mary Oliver, Frances Wood and Ransom Royce.
Funeral services will be held at 2 PM, Thursday, Nov. 12, 2015 at the Perkins Funeral Home with Pastor James Owens officiating. Burial will follow in Willow Glen Cemetery, Dryden. Friends are invited to call at the funeral home from 1 to 2 PM Thursday prior to the funeral.
