The past four years Hazel has lived in Denver, PA with her daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Norman Gould. THANK YOU, Barb and Norm for the care and love you gave Mom.

Hazel Marie was born July 21, 1916 in Virgil, NY the first daughter of five children to Harry and Emily Moon. She graduated from Dryden High School in 1935 and that summer she married Charles Jay Crispell, Dryden High School class of 1931. Together they raised a family of two girls and four boys while operating a trucking business and dairy farm in Caroline, NY. She was a gracious hostess. The open door at their home meant there was always another place at the table for visitors who arrived at mealtime, Hazel always welcomed friends or strangers.

While Hazel was caring for her children she found time to serve her community; during her membership at the Brooktondale Church of the Nazarene she was treasurer and Sunday school teacher, member of the "Caroline Homemakers" and a Child Study Club.

Hazel was widowed in 1962 after 27 years of being: wife, mother and homemaker and found it necessary to work outside of the home to sustain herself and youngest son Paul, she enrolled in the Ithaca School of Practical Nursing. In 1964, having completed her training, she became a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) at Tompkins (County) Community Hospital for the next 15 years she shared her love and care with many patients.

One of her patients was an old classmate of Charles and friend of the family. He, Harland Carpenter, was to become Hazel’s new husband, they married in December 1969. She and Harland moved to Dryden, living on Bean Hill Road. There she became a member of the Dryden Presbyterian church, was ordained an elder, served on the session, a member of the Presbyterian women’s association acted as it’s leader, helped in the "Kitchen Cupboard", a member of the literary club, the Grange, often worked as an election judge and LOVED helping during Dryden Dairy Days. She especially cherished memories of her travels with Harland, from the Passion Play in Omerammergau, Germany to the glorious scenery in Alaska and sharing these memories with her family. Six years after Harland’s death in 1998, after 29 years of marriage, Hazel’s keeping the house on "Beam Hill" with its long driveway, large yard, "cold winters" and the absence of Harland became too much for Hazel and she moved to Denver, PA. She had a vibrant life full of love for and by others. In spite of her arthrtitis, two knee and two shoulder replacements plus two hip repairs, she was determined to try to take care of herself until the Lord took her home.
