HERBERT E. NELSON, age 80, of NYS Rt. 79, Richford, NY passed away Saturday, Nov. 21, 2009 at the Cortland Regional Medical Center after becoming ill at home. "Herb" was born Jan. 12, 1929 in Boston, MA a son of the late Frank and Alma Rose Nelson. On May 14, 1950 he was married to the former Marguerita Pantos in Worcester, MA. Mr. & Mrs. Nelson relocated to New York State in 1956. Herb was a building contractor for many years and enjoyed camping, skiing and spending time with his family. He was an avid Boston Red Sox and Boston Celtics fan. Herb will be remembered for his unique sense of humor and his joy of life.
Survivors include his loving wife of 59 years, Marguerita Nelson of Richford; his children, Laurie (Craig) Fuller of Wilmington, NC, David (Kathleen) Nelson of Brocton, NY and Judith (Joseph B.) Longo of McLean; ten grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his siblings, Howard and Kenneth Nelson, Marjorie Gagnon, Hazel Rosberg and a great-grandaughter, Alexandra Hope Longo.
A celebration of Herb’s life will be held at 3 PM today. Nov. 23, 2009 in the Richford Congregational Church with Pastor Jim Sweeney officiating. Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours.
