HERBERT QUILLEN STEWART
, age 95, of West Groton Road, Groton, NY passed away Friday, Sept. 3, 2010 in the presence of his loving family after an extended illness. Herb was born Jan. 2, 1915 in Oakdale, TN a son of the late Blane and Matilda Gillis Stewart. An area resident since 1927, Herb was married on Oct. 24, 1953 to the former Laura Nobles in Groton. He was a dairy farmer and also worked for John D. Brooks as a well driller. Herb enjoyed gardening and spending time with family.
Survivors include his loving wife, Laura Stewart of Groton, his sons, Andrew W. of Groton, Bert (Karen) of Ithaca, Arnold (Rebecca) of Hartsell, AL, John Q (Kathy) of Cayce, SC; daughters, Opal Clark and Beverly Oaksford both of Groton; a half-sister, Clara Ann Presley of Marion, OH; fourteen grandchildren; nineteen great-grandchildren; fourteen great great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. A sister, Geneva Homler, of Freeman, OH has died as well as a son-in-law, Robert Oaksford.
Funeral services will be held at 2 PM, Tuesday, Sept. 7, at the Perkins Funeral Home followed by interment in Cobb Street Cemetery, West Groton. Rev. Sam Neno will officiate.
