CORTLAND - Herrick R. Diamond, “Roger”, 88 of Cortland, NY passed away Tuesday, December 1st, 2020 at St. Joseph's Hospital, Syracuse surrounded by his loving family. He was born on July 30, 1932 in Richford, NY, the son of the late Herrick and Dorothy Crumm Diamond. Graduated from Marathon Central School and having pitched in an All-Star game in Cooperstown, Roger served with the US Army in the Korean War, earning the Army Commendation Ribbon with Metal Pendant during his service. Roger retired from Smith-Corona as the International Director of Quality Assurance after 32 years of employment, where he earned many design patents. He was predeceased by his wife of 64 years, Gerry, in March 2020, and his sister, Jeanne. Survived by his daughter, Catherine (Leonard) Warren, three sons, Paul (Barclay), Gregory (Linda) and Stephen, many grandchildren and great grandchildren and his three sisters, Reba, Kate and Sue. Roger was a lifelong member of the Homer Masonic Lodge #352 and VFW. He loved to hunt, fish and watch his NY Yankees. He always enjoyed his time with family. Roger also coached baseball for many years in the Homer Little League and American Legion Baseball, where he positively impacted many young men. He was a longtime member of the Homer First United Methodist Church. Funeral service will be held at 11 am, Tuesday, December 8, 2020 at Perkins Funeral Home, 55 West Main St., Dryden, NY with Rev. Park officiating. Friends may call from 9-11 am prior to the service. A private burial will be held in the spring of 2021 in Parker Street Cemetery, Lapeer. Donations may be made to Homer First United Methodist Church. Due to COVID-19, attendance may be limited and social distancing and masks are required.
