Howard R. Wheelock

HOWARD R. WHEELOCK, age 91, of McLean, NY passed away Wednesday, March 7th, 2007 at the Cortland Regional Medical Center. Mr. Wheelock was born March 8th, 1915 at Pitcher, NY a son of the late Ray and Mattie Ellsworth Wheelock. On August 6, 1937 he was married to Nellie Craig at Borodino, NY. The Wheelock’s have been residents of McLean for 62 years and members of the McLean Community Church for more than 60 years. Howard served on many church committees and fund raisers as well as serving as a Deacon and a Trustee for many years. Howard retired from Smith Corona in 1977. He was an avid gardener who raised gladiolas and enjoyed woodworking crafts and traveling.

Survivors include his wife of 69 years, Nellie C. Wheelock of McLean; his daughter, Sheryl W. Searles of Cortland; his sons, Nelson K. (Donna) Wheelock of Preble and Glenn R. (Gail) Wheelock of Cortland; a sister, Alice (George) McKinney of Stark, FL; ten grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; one great great-granddaughter; nieces and nephews. A sister, Florence, predeceased him.

Funeral services will be held at 11 AM, Saturday, March 10, 2007 at the McLean Community Church with Rev. Leslie A. Smith officiating. Burial, delayed until spring, will be in Atwater Cemetery, Homer, NY. Friends are invited to call from 10 to 11 AM Saturday at the church. Memorials, given in Howard’s name and in lieu of flowers, are directed to the McLean Community Church, P.O. Box 246, McLean, NY 13102-0246.
