Jack O'Bannon Gallagher

d. February 6, 2012

O’Bannon Gallagher, 17, passed away unexpectedly at home on February 6, 2012. Born April 15, 1994, Jack was a senior in Dryden High School at the time of his death. He was enormously talented academically and musically and would have been headed either to Brown, Hamilton, or Wesleyan in the fall. Jack played tympani in the school’s wind ensemble, sang in the school chorus and the a cappella group Beyond Measure, and with CSMA’s Young Men’s Chorus. He taught himself guitar, banjo, and keyboards and could be heard playing and singing late into the night in his room. His voice was powerful and beautiful, and everyone who heard him sing was moved by it. Even now the sweet sound of his voice still reverberates through the souls of those who love him. Jack had a wide circle of friends whom he loved, particularly, Will, Isabel, Joe, Keith, and John. He is survived by his parents Rachel Dickinson and Tim Gallagher of Freeville; his sisters Railey Savage of Ithaca, Clara Gallagher, a freshman at Cornell, and Gwendolyn Gallagher of Freeville; his great aunts Mildred Sherwood and Jean Pearson of Freeville, and Anne Murray of Newark, Del.; his aunts Amy Dickinson (Bruno Schickel) of Dryden, Anne Dickinson (Brian Adams) of Rochester, NY, Janet Gallagher of Irvine, Cal., and Maureen Coleman (Steve Robak) of San Diego, Cal.; his cousins Annie Scogin of Washington, D.C., Sam Scogin of Portland, ME, Emily Mason of Freeville, Avila Schickel of Dryden, Michaela Schickel of St. Andrews, Scotland, Caitlin Schickel of Ithaca, and Angela Martinez of Brooktondale; and numerous second cousins. Funeral services will be held at 11 AM, Friday, Feb. 10, 2012, at the Freeville United Methodist Church with Rev. Dale Austin officiating. Burial will be private at Willow Glen Cemetery, Dryden. Friends are invited to call Thursday, from 3 to 6 PM, at the Perkins Funeral Home, 55 West Main St., Dryden, NY. Memorials may be made to the Freeville United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 166, Freeville, NY 13068-0166 or to the Dryden High School Music Department, P.O. Box 88, Dryden, NY 13053-0088. www.perkinsfuneralhome.com
