James B. DuVall, 80 years old of Dryden NY, passed away on the morning of March 18, 2024 surrounded
by family at his home after a long illness.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Joan. Together they created a family of six children: Jim DuVall and
his wife Cindy of New Berlin, Paul DuVall and his wife Kim of Sherburne, Tracey DuVall of Trumansburg,
Kelly DuVall of Freeville, John DuVall and his wife Liz of Ohio, Joan (DuVall) Olson and her husband Jason
of Freeville. Their family grew to have 11 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and two more great
grandchildren on the way.
He was born and raised in Sloatsburg NY and spent most of his adult life in Chenango County, NY and
Florida working mainly in construction. He moved to Tompkins County five years ago.
In his younger days he was devoted to his wife, children, and grandchildren. With the happiest times
being spent out on “the land” where weekends were spent four-wheeling, fishing, playing pinochle, and
cooking on the grill (always had a sample plate). His grandchildren were his biggest pride and joy,
watching them grow into the adults that they became creating their own families. He enjoyed watching
his grandchildren pick their professions everything from homemakers, office workers, construction
workers, soldier, baker, police officer, teacher, and veterinarian.
He enjoyed spending his free time at the casino with his wife Joan during their retirement days. He
treasured every minute with family, watching each family grow with the addition of each great
grandchild. No one ever met him without hearing something about his grandchildren, as that always
started his conversation.
A private celebration for family will be held to remember a great man.
