JAMES E. HANSHAW , age 89, of 301 McGraw House, Ithaca, NY and formerly of Ferguson Rd., Freeville passed away Wednesday, May 3, 2006 at the Cayuga Medical Center at Ithaca, NY after a one year illness. "Jim" was born at Ithaca on May 23, 1916 and was a son of the late Frank and Rachel Terwilliger Hanshaw. He served in the US Army during WW II and was a driver in the "Red Ball Express" during the European conflicts. Jim was a union carpenter and was employed until his retirement at Cornell University, Carpenter’s Shop. Previously he had worked with his father building homes in Cayuga Heights. His wife, the former Frances Bower, died in 1996. Jim was an avid outdoors man who loved to hunt and fish.

Survivors include his children, Charles E. Hanshaw of LaPenita, Mexico, Richard B. Hanshaw of Spring Hill, FL; Deborah J. McGrogan of Trumansburg and Donna R. (Michael) Schnurle of Spencer; a brother, Frank (Nancy) Hanshaw of Cayuga Heights; eighteen grandchildren; thirty-one great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Sylvia Hanshaw of California; nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a son, James Hanshaw, who died in 1961 and brothers, Raymond and John Hanshaw and a sister, Edith Mae Dimmock.

Funeral services will be at 2 PM, Saturday, May 6, 2006 at the Perkins Funeral Home, 55 West Main St., Dryden with Rev. Dale Austin officiating. Burial with military honors provided by the Dryden Veterans Memorial Home Ritual Team will follow in Willow Glen Cemetery, Dryden. There are no prior calling hours.
