James D. Whipple,
age 72, of Route 38, Harford, NY passed away Thursday, December 20, 2012 at Cayuga Medical Center, Ithaca, NY after a brief illness.
Born August 15, 1940 in Binghamton, NY, he was the son of Ann Kushner Whipple and the late Frank Whipple. Jim owned and operated Specialty Trophies and Awards in Dryden for 40 years. Jim was an avid sports fan of the NY Giants, Yankees and Syracuse Orangemen. He loved to hunt and fish and had a great sense of humor up to the end. He sponsored and supported several local athletic and youth organizations. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather.

Jim is survived by his wife, Margaret R. Whipple of Harford, NY; children, Bonnie (Dale Grosser) Whipple of Port Trevorton, PA, James (Elizabeth) Whipple of Harrison, ID, Wendy (Joseph, IV) Rappazzo of Abingdon, MD, Victoria (Paul) Best of Richford, NY; grandchildren, Amy Grosser, Cody, Daniel and Andrew Whipple, Joseph, James, Brendan, Catherine, Christen and Jesse Rappazzo, Ryan, Morgan and Paulie Best; brother, Melvin Whipple of Afton, NY; sister, Norma (Don) Doolittle of Endwell, NY; brother, Tom (Debbie) Whipple of Kildeer, IL; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his father, Jim was predeceased by his sister, Gwen Hunt.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 am, on Friday, December 28, 2012 at Holy Cross Church, George Road, Freeville with Rev. Malachy Eloo Nwosu as celebrant. Friends are invited to call from 5-8 pm on Thursday, December 27, 2012 at Perkins Funeral Home, 55 W. Main St., Dryden, NY. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to American Diabetes Assoc., 6390 Fly Road, 2nd Floor, East Syracuse, NY 13057 or American Cancer Society, 13 Beech St., Johnson City, NY 13790 or a charity of one’s choice.
