Janice Marie (Balitz) Brown

Janice M. Brown, 78 of Dryden, NY passed away Thursday, February 20, 2025 following a short illness.

Born October 1, 1946 in Syracuse, NY she was the only child of the late Emil and Virginia Balitz. She was graduated from North Syracuse High School and received her Associate’s degree from SUNY Morrisville and her Bachelor’s degree from Cornell University. She worked her entire career, over 40 years, in Food Science at Cornell University. Before retirement, she was a student instructor who loved all her students. It was while working at Cornell that she met and eventually married David P. Brown, a Senior Extension Associate, researcher and instructor in Food Science. He passed away April 23, 2008. Janice volunteered with the SPCA of Tompkins County as well as The Museum of the Earth. She was an avid animal lover and for many years was involved in fostering Golden Retrievers.

Janice is survived by her son, Philip C. (Theresa) Brown of Dryden; her daughter, Brenda Lee Pearson of Florida; three grandchildren, Kyle David Brown, Dylan Robert Adams and Samantha Marie Brown.

Family and friends are invited to call from 1-4 pm on Sunday, March 2, 2025 at Perkins Funeral Home, 55 W. Main St., Dryden, NY. Services and burial in Green Hills Cemetery, Dryden will be at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Tompkins County SPCA, 1640 Hanshaw Road, Ithaca, NY 14850.
