Janice Anita Haines

January 28, 1933 — February 25, 2017

JANICE ANITA HAINES, age 84, of McLean, NY passed away Saturday, February 25, 2017 at the Groton Nursing Facility after an extended illness. Janice was born January 28, 1933 in Fort Fairfield, Maine a daughter of the late Carleton and Grace Whiteneck Hoyt. She attended the Maple Grove School (a one room school) and was graduated from Fort Fairfield High School. On March 11, 1950 she was married to Richard Noel Haines in New Brunswick, Canada. They relocated to New York State in 1959 and in 1960 began farming on the McLean-Cortland Road. Janice attended SUNY Cortland (while raising six children) and was graduated in 1969 with a BS in Elementary Education. She was a 4th and 6th Grade Teacher at the Groton Elementary School for 20 years. Janice was a life time Equine enthusiast and also restored and refinished furniture and was the best baker in the world. She was an active member and bible study participant of the First Baptist Church of Homer (currently Grace Christian Fellowship) for 58 years. Janice served on the Town of Groton Planning Board and was a trustee of the McLean Rural Cemetery and a Board Member of the Groton Community Health Center
Survivors include her children, Richard Noel (Terry) Haines, Constance Grace (Peter) Brown, Jennifer Rae (John) Morey, Carleton Hoyt (Bonnie) Haines, Stephen Edward (Deena) Haines and Harmony Hill Haines.; a sister, Marilyn (Philip) Chase; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; nieces; nephews and extended family members. She was predeceased by her husband, Richard Noel Haines, Sr. in 1994; a son, Samuel Graydon Haines in 1965 and her siblings, Carleen Crowley and Richard Hoyt, III.
Funeral services will be held at 11 AM, Tuesday, Feb. 28, 2017 at the Mclean Community Church with Pastor Travis Formoso officiating. Burial will follow in McLean Rural Cemetery. Friends are invited to call from 10 to 11 AM Tuesday prior to the funeral. Arrangements are entrusted to the Perkins Funeral Home.
