ITHACA - Jim Hallam, age 75, of Ithaca, NY passed away Tuesday, November 17, 2015 at Cayuga Medical Center, Ithaca, NY after a brief fight with pancreatic cancer. It was a sad day as we lost Poppie; the Man, the Myth, the Legend.
Born Donald James Hallam on November 28, 1939 in Ithaca, NY he was the son of the late Robert and Doris Van Sickle Hallam. Jim was a jack-of-all-trades, who wore many hats throughout his lifetime. He was a mechanic, policeman, EMT, the owner of County Ambulance, Discount Beverage, Hallam's Corner Store, the Supervisor of Ithaca College's Shuttle Services, an independent contractor for the US Post Office, an assistant at Wagner Funeral Home, and most recently a beloved crossing guard for the children at Fall Creek Elementary School. Jim was a member of the Ithaca Elks Lodge #636 for 35 years, attaining Elk of the Year in 1989-90, a member of Ithaca Fire Dept. Cataract Hose Company #7 for 37 years, serving as President for 18 years, and a member of the Veteran Fireman's Association. Jim enjoyed winters in Englewood, FL combing the beaches for shark's teeth. He liked to tinker and fix things in his shed and was always available to help anyone in need. His favorite times were spent surrounded by his family and friends, enjoying his grandchildren and great grandchildren, and watching the NY Yankees.
An amazing brother, husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle, brother in law, and most of all, friend; Jim will be painfully missed by his wife of 50 years, Marion Chisholm Hallam at home; son, Michael (Charlotte Pollog) Hallam of Huntsville, AL; daughters, Christine (Connie Wilcox) Hallam of Groton, NY, Laurie (Denny) Jordan of Berkshire, NY and Jennifer (Brian Watson) Hallam of Ithaca, NY; grandchildren, Joshua (Ashely Elmore) Jordan, Dustin Jordan, Dakota (Brittany) Jordan, Alisa (Brandon) Green, Cullen Watson, Jon Williams and Meghan Williams; great grandchildren, Andrew, Kylee and Karsyn Green, Dalton Jordan and Aiden Jordan (to be born this spring); sister, Dawn (Bert) White; sister and best friend, Linda Long; brother in law, Ian Chisholm; sister in law, Sharon (Guilie) Lucatelli; and by many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. In addition to his parents, Jim was predeceased by his beloved daughter, Jody Hallam Williams; mother in law, May Chisholm; brother in law, Kenneth Long and his favorite uncle, Kenneth Van Sickle. Jim's family would like to sincerely thank the staff of 4 North at Cayuga Medical Center, the Hospicare Team and especially Dr. Magdalena Hohn for the kind and compassionate care given to him.
A memorial service celebrating Jim's life will be held at 1:00 pm, Friday, November 27, 2015 at St. Paul's United Methodist Church, corner of Court and Aurora Streets, Ithaca, NY with Rev. Phil Jordan officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospicare, 172 E. King Rd., Ithaca, NY or Franziska Racker Center, 3226 Wilkins Rd., Ithaca, NY 14850. Perkins Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
