Joan M. Curtis, age 73, of George Rd., Freeville, NY passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, on Tuesday, October 28, 2014 at Cayuga Medical Center after a brief illness.
Born June 30, 1941 in Ithaca, NY she was a daughter of Jane A. Baldwin and the late Clifford Baldwin. Joan was employed with Tompkins Trust Company for 37 years. She was hired in 1969 and retired in 2006. She was made Assistant Vice President and Branch Manager in Dryden in 1988 through 2001. She retired in 2006 as Assistant Vice President Loan Officer. Personally, Joan was very generous and charitable, dedicated to helping others in any way possible. She was an avid golfer and a devout catholic. Joan was a very active communicant of Holy Cross Church of Dryden, NY. She touched many lives in the Dryden and Ithaca areas and was a devoted daughter, mother, sister, grandmother and friend.
In addition to her mother, Jane Baldwin of Freeville, Joan is survived by her sons, John (Patricia) Capalongo of Morris Plains, NJ and Jeff (Chrissy) Capalongo of Freeville, NY; grandchildren, Christopher, Tasha, and Dominic Capalongo; brothers, Tim (Linda) West of Export, PA and Danny (Cathy) West of Lake Placid, FL; several nieces and nephews. In addition, she was predeceased by her sister, Margaret West and brother, John West.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 am, Monday, November 3, 2014 at Holy Cross Church, George Rd., Freeville, NY, with Rev. Malachy Eloo Nwosu officiating. Burial will follow in Willow Glen Cemetery, Dryden, NY. Friends may call from 1-4 pm, Sunday at Perkins Funeral Home, 55 W. Main St., Dryden.
