Joan Margaret Kiernan Ryan

JOAN MARGARET KIERNAN RYAN, age 66, of 44 Yellow Barn Road, Freeville, NY, and formerly of Rochester St., Dryden, passed away on Sunday, July 25, 2004, at home after a brief illness. Mrs. Ryan was born January 24, 1938 at Honesdale, PA, the daughter of the late Jack and Emma Kahrs Kiernan. After High School, Joan received her Registered Nursing Degree from Binghamton City Hospital School of Nursing in 1959 and was married on April 22, 1960 to Gerald D. Ryan in Owego, NY. Mr. and Mrs. Ryan relocated to Dryden in 1962. Joan was employed at the former Tompkins County Hospital and later retired from the NYS College of Veterinary Medicine. She was an avid golfer and bingo player, but was better known for her needlework and the love of her family. A wonderful and loving wife, mother and grandmother, she has left a lasting legacy through her needlework and relationships with her family and friends.

Survivors include her husband of 44 years, Gerald D. "Jerry" Ryan of Freeville; her daughter, Laurie L. Ryan of Brunswick, GA; her son, Mark A. (Lisa) Ryan of Cortland; two treasured grandsons, Jack and Owen Ryan of Cortland; a sister-in-law, Mary Kiernan of Sherburne, NY; nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother, John Kiernan.

Private memorial services will be held at the Perkins Funeral Home in Dryden, NY. There are no calling hours. Burial will be in Green Hills Cemetery, Dryden.
