JOANNE FRITTS (nee Turnowicz) died peacefully at her daughter’s home in Marathon, NY on May 1, 2015 at the age of 72. Joanne is survived by her children, Christine (John) Leyburn and Theresa LoRusso; six grandchildren, Daniel Stevens, Shane (Jessica) Stevens, Heather Perry, April (Jared) McCabe, Tara Merrill and TJ Merrill; eight great-grandchildren; siblings, Suzanne (Bill) Turetsky, Joseph (Mary) Turnowicz, Gerard (Ann) Turnowicz and Eileen Turnowicz-Johns. She was predeceased by her parents, Joseph and Mary Toman Turnowicz and her husband, Robert “Steve” Fritts.
Joanne was born on February 1st, 1943 in Newark, NJ. While a native of NJ, and a short term resident of Florida, Joanne made her home in Marathon, NY and at one point opened an embroidery shop on Main Street there. She was a talented seamstress and homemaker and later a Medical Transcriptionist for over twenty years at the Cortland Regional Medical Center where she worked until she was 69, only retiring after a fall.
Joanne was a dedicated caregiver to both her father and mother before their deaths and was a conscientious and industrious worker. She was a wonderful cook and a friend to many. She will be greatly missed by friends, neighbors, coworkers and her family.
Funeral services will be held at 1 PM, Tuesday, May 5th at the Perkins Funeral Home with Deacon George Kozak officiating. Friends are invited to calling hours from 11 AM to 1 PM, Tuesday at the funeral home, 55 West Main Street, Dryden, NY. Details of a reception will be given at the funeral.
