JOHN W. CLEVELAND, Sr., age 75, of 3
Old 76 Road, Brooktondale, passed away Tuesday, July 4th, 2006 at the Cayuga Medical Center at Ithaca. Mr. Cleveland was born November 23, 1930 at Speedsville, NY a son of the late Delmar and Elma Liddington Cleveland. He was a life resident of the Town of Caroline and served in the US Air Force from 1947 to 1948. On Aug. 19, 1950 he was married to the former Mary Lou McBride at Speedsville. He was a dairy farmer and worked part time for the Town of Caroline Highway Dept. and later became employed at Cornell University as an inter-campus mail delivery man retiring in 1996 after 30years service. He was a member of the Slaterville Fire Dept., Caroline Valley Coon Club, the UAW and Eastern Dairy Association. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and spending time with his family on the farm.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Mary Lou Cleveland; hischildren, Jenny Lou (Scott) Lovejoy, Delmar (Kim) Cleveland, Edward Cleveland and Elma (Ted) Canfield all of Brooktondale; his siblings, Hazel Cleveland residing in Florida, Pearl Bush of Willseyville, Lillian (Philip) Davis of Berkshire, Delma Partridge of Marathon, Anna Daly of Berkshire; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. John was predeceased by a son, John William Cleveland, Jr. and sisters, Bertha Delmage and Jean Cleveland.
Memorial services will be held at 11 Am Friday, July 7, 2006 at the Perkins Funeral Home with Rev. David C. Robinson officiating. Burial will follow in Garrett Mandeville Cemetery, West Slaterville.
