John Edward Davis

CORTLAND, NY - John Edward Davis , age 90, of 2175 Washington St., Cortland, NY (Virgil) died Wednesday, March 10, 2004 at the Cortland Memorial Hospital. Mr. Davis was born Nov. 7, 1913 in Russell, Iowa a son of the late Norris C. and Ollive McVey Davis. He came to New York State in 1925 and attended Cortland schools. On June 16, 1934 he was married to the former Agnes Irene Graham in Tully, NY. He worked for Newcomb Motors and Cobakco Bread Co. During WW II he was employed by Savage Arms Co. in Utica and later returned to Cortland to work for Brockway Motor Truck Company retiring in 1975 after 31 years service. John was a member of the Virgil Fire Dept. for over 50 years. John was a loving husband, wonderful father and grandfather who will be greatly missed by all.

Survivors include his wife of nearly 70 years, Agnes Graham Davis of Virgil, two daughters, Patty (Edward) Grinnell of Tully and Lois (Ward) Tillotson of Harford; eleven grandchildren, Elaine (Michael) Hutson of Otisco, Valerie (Dennis) Hartnett, Ted (Shawna) Grinnell and Sue ( Bruce) Wilson all of Truxton, Lisa (Louis) Morgan of Homer, Teresa (Michael) Hoke of Tully, Linda (Randy) Foster of Homer, John (Becky) Tillotson of Marathon, Karen (John) Burns of Cortland, Patti (Jason) Trabucco of Cortland and Richard Tillotson of Harford; fifteen great-grandchildren; nieces; nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his brothers, Gayle, William "Merle", Clyde and Walter "Mike" Davis..

Funeral services will be at 1 PM Saturday, March 13, 2004 at the Perkins Funeral Home with Rev. Janet Lee of the United Methodist Church of Virgil officiating. Burial will follow in Cortland Rural Cemetery. Friends are invited to call Friday from 7 to 9 PM at the funeral home, 55 West Main St., Dryden.
